Comic Books / Red Lanterns
« Last post by The 2nd Ben on December 09, 2014, 12:43:19 PM »
I just wanted to follow up something I mentioned yesterday when talking about the Reds and how enjoyable the book has become.  It started as
a villains book, I think. The problem with that is no one cared. With books like Magneto or Sinestro, those are characters that have history. While Atrocitus is
an intersting addition, he's too new to care about and it felt like he and the Reds were being force fed onto us just to get another Green Lantern
family book out there. But with Charles Soule arriving with issue 21 and the introduction of Guy Gardner to the book, it solved a few problems. First,
it gives a stage to a Lantern who was shoe horned into one of the other books, freeing up page space for everyone. Second, it's a very natural fit. Guy
was always a hot-head. Soule still keeps that aspect plus a part of his doucheness but makes him a likable, sympathetic character. Lastly, it clears things
up. When the series started with the New 52 launch, we didn't know what to make of Atrocitus. Was he on some kind of redemption thing? Was he
still a big bad, retooling for another go-around. That was never clear. Now the book has a more visible direction that will hopefully continue after Soule
leaves the book.  I strongly recommend checking out his run that begin with #21 and hope for the best when the new writer comes on.
General Discussion / Next Meeting?

Can someone clear something up for me? According to this website, the next POP in Parma Heights is 6/30 but the Facebook page said we'll be having meetings in Parma Heights on 6/16 and 6/30. Anybody know what's going on?
TV & Movies / Jack Bauer and Batman!
« Last post by The 2nd Ben on May 05, 2014, 09:49:27 PM »
I just finished watching the first two episodes of 24 and it was great to see that Jack is back! The tension felt just as crisp as it did years ago when the show was running strong. Maybe not as strong as it's Emmy season but better than the last few. And the preview for Gotham? That was f$cking awesome. Go to or any comic site to check it out. I still miss President Palmer. And Tony. And Michelle. And Bill Buchanon. But at least Kim wasn't being chased by cougars. Sorry, slipped back to 24.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to mention something real quick. The shop I frequent, B&L Comics,  is currently having his 50% off back issue sale now thru December 14th. Larry's good people and he did advertise in the flyer for Akron Comic-Con, so if you're looking for something and want to throw a few bucks his way I'm sure he would appreciate it.

TV & Movies / X-Men: DoFP Trailer 1
« Last post by The 2nd Ben on October 30, 2013, 11:01:06 AM »
Loved this trailer and I'm not sure exactly why. The music is great, but the first trailer showed more than just an action movie. To try and put it into some context, I'm as hyped for this as I was for Man of Steel and I haven't been looking forward to an X movie since the first one. I think it was an awesome start and can't wait to see the next one, which will probably have Sentinels and air sometime around the Super Bowl. It restores my faith in Bryan Singer and calms my fears that he brought on board too many characters and was giving away too much of the movie thru his twitter account.
 Hello everyone,

I have told a lot of you guys about my plans to create a comic book club of my own at Cleveland State University. Now that club has become a reality!  :)
We just had our first meeting on Friday, and I will tell everyone the good news at this Monday's meeting. Our club at this time has a 29 student membership, and includes artists, other writers, and graphic designers, all interested in comic books and graphic novels.
Also, I will ask Marc Sumerak and Mike Barr if they are able to attend a meeting as a special guest speaker, to talk to the students about their experiences in comics. I also talked to Tony Isabella on the possibility on a guest appearance; he said next year he'll think about it. If they are able to, I am sure Panel by Panel Discussion will be the talk of the town and the biggest news on campus!
Panel by Panel Discussion now has an official twitter, @PbPDiscussion, and my Vice President Skye is creating a Facebook page. We are also making a logo for the club.
Attached is a picture of some of the current membership, the people who attended our first meeting.
